Alfred F. De Breanski (British, 1877-1957), signed
lower right and titled on the reverse:
"At Hineham-on-Thames," depicting a stretch of
the river at sunset. Provenance: Harrod's of
London, who from labels on the back appear to
have believed the work to be that of Breanski, Sr.
   16" x 24" (Frame: 21½" x 29½")    This is
probably an early Breanski, Jr. painting as it
closely emulates the atmospheric, brushless style

signed lower left, depicting a historic sea battle
between the British and French fleets in "The
Battle of the Saintes" (a group of small
Caribbean islands) on April 12th, 1782 for
control of the West Indies.  The English
admiral Sir George Rodney was victorious and
the French ships under admiral Comte de
Grasse suffered 2,000 casualties and capture of
5,000 men.  Two English ships at the center are
named "Namur" and "Canada" on the stern.
